Cooking is a Superpower- Learn How to Use it
I remember when I was a kid playing with earth and tree leaves pretending I was cooking. I would pick up flowers so I could finalize the dish. I loved the creative process associated with cooking. I couldn’t wait until I could actually learn how to cook. When I was a teenager, and after learning the basics, I would have the tendency to invent new recipes. I would even create challenges to myself, in order to gamify the process.
As I got older, learning the properties of each ingredient and their benefits, felt like having super powers. To learn that are no bad or good foods, but instead everything is useful when you know how and when to use it, gave me such a relief and took off so much pressure associated with today’s eating philosophy.
Every time I cook something, I first ask what my body needs today, and then the magic begins. Cooking your own is something so personal yet that can carry so much meaning not only to ourselves but to those we share the food with.
You can turn what many see as a routine task into an art form brimming with creativity, connection, and self-awareness. I’ve reframed food as neither “good” nor “bad” but as tool to support our needs when understood fully. That revelation was very liberating.
Cooking truly is a profound act of mindfulness and intuition. When you ask yourself what your body needs before you start, you’re tapping into a level of self-awareness that not only nurtures your physical health but also your emotional and mental well-being. It’s like a conversation with yourself, expressed through the ingredients and the creative process.
Additionally, cooking bridges a connection with history and culture. Every dish carries whispers of tradition, the stories of the people who first crafted it, and the lands where the ingredients were grown. By experimenting and creating your own recipes, you’re adding your personal chapter to this shared human story.
And then, there’s the magic of sharing food—how it turns an act of nourishment into an expression of love and care. A simple home-cooked meal can communicate emotions, forge bonds, and create memories that linger far beyond the table. It's no wonder cooking is a superpower.
